Safeguarding Policy

This Club is an Affiliated Member of London ABA and as such adopts the following Club Child Protection Policy which is supported by and compliments the Amateur Child Protection Policy – these policies are mandatory and acceptance of them is a non-negotiable requirement when becoming a member of this club. 



  • This club has a duty of care to Children and Young People [under 18 years of age] and the safety and welfare of them is paramount;

  • This club acknowledges that it has a legal and moral responsibility to ensure the wellbeing of Children and Young People within the club;

  • This club acknowledges that every child and Young Person has a right to enjoy membership and the sport of amateur boxing within a safe enjoyable setting;

  •  This club will continually review this policy in the light of identified ‘best practice’;

  • This club acknowledges that every member including Committee, Coach, Official, and Volunteer have a moral & legal responsibility to safeguard and promote every Child & Young Person’s welfare;

  • This club is committed to ensuring that every Child & Young Person regardless of age, ability, racial origin, religious belief, sexual orientation or gender has a right to learn, participate in and enjoy Amateur Boxing, free of the fear and safe from abuse of any type;

  • This club ensures that required members of Committee, Coaches, Officials and Volunteers shall at all times possess a current London Boxing Boxing Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, which is registered with the London Boxing DBS Umbrella Body [non-compliance with this clause will automatically exclude such persons; roles requiring check as per London Boxing DBS Policy];

  • This club has appointed a Welfare Officer whose name appears below, who shall administer this Child Protection Policy and shall be responsible for your induction which includes provision of the London ABA Child Protection Policy and instruction on Child Protection within the Club and London Boxing, ensuring your appreciation of its requirement of strict compliance;

  • This club will treat seriously and deal rigorously with any incidence of abuse and will at all times follow the procedures laid down in the England Boxing Child Protection Policy;
Any abuse or inappropriate behaviour regarding Children & Young People will be challenged and dealt with appropriately;

  • This club clearly understands that abuse comes in many forms which include Emotional, Physical and Sexual. Foul language, bullying and requiring an athlete to train at an inappropriate level is also recognised as a form of abuse;

  • This club acknowledges that it is the responsibility of experts to determine whether or not abuse is / has taken place, it is however everyone’s responsibility to report concerns and / or abuse;
We ALWAYS remember, in cases of concern or abuse – DOING NOTHING IS NOT AN OPTION!!!


2BX Boxing Club aims to ensure that all children and young people within the sport of boxing are treated with respect, valued and at all times ‘safe’ from all forms of abuse.
We want you:

  • to feel welcomed into a safe, caring, sport with a happy and friendly atmosphere within your club;

  • to be regarded as an individual, listened to, having your feelings respected and opinions valued;

  • cared for by skilled, experienced staff and volunteers who understand the needs of children and young people;

  • given praise and encouragement, opportunities to succeed and an environment where positive behaviour is promoted;

  • encouraged to develop self-discipline and consideration for others;

  • provided with opportunities to learn new skills, develop confidence and a positive self image.
As a child or young person you are the future of our sport and we are determined that you will thrive and achieve your goals and full potential in a friendly and safe environment.


There may be times when you feel angry, unsafe, isolated, unhappy, uncomfortable or just worried. In these cases, you should always tell your parents or those who care for you. Please remember, there will always be someone who can help.


If you cannot or do not feel you want to speak to any of these people, you can contact any of the following people / organisations 24 hours a day who ‘will’ listen and do something to help you:


2BX Boxing club is committed to the welfare of its members and in particular to children and young persons. All England Boxing members and clubs should be responsive to concerns.


Each club has a welfare officer and the details of these officers are in prominent positions within gyms. These persons are appointed for their abilities to address any concerns; they have the appropriate training and/or experience. If a person has a welfare concern this would be a suitable person to speak to.

Equity Policy Statement

2BX Boxing Club adopts the London  Boxing Equity Policy and is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development. In doing so it acknowledges and adopts the following Sport England definition of sports equity:


  • Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.

  • The club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality and social/economic status.

  • The club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse.

  • All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity.

  • The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously, according to the club and England Boxing disciplinary procedures.

Who might be harmed and how?
1. Participants – may be injured during training or competition bouts.
2. Participants with medical conditions – may require special attention and care.
3. Participants and coaches – may suffer injuries due to incorrect clothing.
4. Participants – may become dehydrated during training.
5. Participants and coaches – may slip or trip due to spillages or trip hazards.
6. Participants – may suffer injuries during sparring.
7. Participants – may be at risk in the event of a fire.
8. Participants – may be at risk if equipment is defective.

What are you already doing?
1. Injury to participant:
– Participants are instructed to inform the facility manager if they are injured.
– Coaches are first aid trained Qualified England Boxing coaches.
– Ambulance is called if necessary, and serious incidents are reported to the staff.
– The club committee provides emergency contact numbers.
– Doctors are present during competition bouts ( England boxing)
– Knockouts are recorded and boxers are not allowed to participate for 30 days.
2. Medical Conditions:
– Participants complete a Physical Activity Questionnaire to ensure fitness.
– Participants with medical conditions require a doctor’s note to train with EB medical card.
– Participants are educated on how to handle situations related to their condition.
– Participants are responsible for administering their own medication.
– Boxers undergo a carding system to check their ability to box.
3. Incorrect Clothing – injury:
– Students are informed by the club and coaches about correct clothing.
– Correct footwear is required.
– Jewelry is not worn during practice.
– Coaches ensure hands are wrapped correctly.
– Gloves are checked before sessions.
4. Dehydration:
– Regular breaks are taken to allow students to hydrate.
– Dehydrated students are advised to replenish liquids.
– Water points at venues are known.
– Students are regularly reminded to bring water and fluids.
5. Slips and Trips:
– The hall is cleaned daily.
– The hall is checked before training for spillages and trip hazards.
– Spillages are reported and wet floor signs are used.
– Trip hazards are reported to the Sports Centre.
6. Sparring injuries:
– Coaches determine if boxers are fit to spar.
– Boxers are paired based on skill level.
– Headgear is worn during sparring.
– Injuries are reported and boxers with head injuries see a doctor.
– Mouthguards are worn at all times during boxing.
7. Fire:
– Club and coach know the evacuation procedure.
– Any changes to the procedure are communicated to the club.
8. Defective equipment:
– Equipment is checked before use.
– Club pays for the upkeep of equipment.
– Defective equipment is not used and is reported.

What further action is necessary?
1. Injury to participant:
– Ensure participants are aware of the process to report injuries.
– Provide clear communication channels for emergencies.
– Ensure coaches are up to date with first aid training.
2. Medical Conditions:
– Continuously remind participants to update the club about any changes to their medical conditions.
– Provide clear guidelines on how to handle specific medical situations.
3. Incorrect Clothing – injury:
– Enforce the rule of correct clothing and footwear.
– Conduct regular checks to ensure participants are wearing appropriate attire.
4. Dehydration:
– Emphasize the importance of staying hydrated throughout training sessions.
– Encourage participants to bring their own water bottles.
5. Slips and Trips:
– Conduct regular inspections of the hall to identify and address any potential hazards.
– Implement a reporting system for spillages and trip hazards.
6. Sparring injuries:
– Monitor sparring sessions closely to ensure safety precautions are followed.
– Provide additional training on proper sparring techniques.
7. Fire:
– Review and update the evacuation procedure, if necessary.
– Conduct fire drills regularly to ensure everyone is familiar with the procedure.
8. Defective equipment:
– Conduct regular inspections of equipment to identify and replace any defective items.
– Ensure all participants are aware of the process to report defective equipment.
